Join Us In Honoring And Remembering Our Friend, Dr. John Soto

Dear Friends,

It is with deep sadness that I share the news of the passing of John Soto, a great friend and supporter of Gateway Community College and its students. John was a self-made man who built a successful manufacturing company and was known throughout the State of Connecticut for his commitment to our community. He was appointed by the Board of Trustees to the Search Committee that hired Dr. Dorsey L. Kendrick as president of Gateway.

John was a true visionary who searched for creative ways to help students achieve their educational dreams. Because of his belief that wrap-around services are critical to keeping students in school, he and his wife Gladys initiated the Helping Hands Fund through the Gateway Community College Foundation.  The Fund, created in 2002, has changed the lives of countless Gateway students.

In addition to the Helping Hands Fund, John and his family generously donated funds for the construction of our state of the art Manufacturing Engineering Technology CNC Lab when Gateway moved to its downtown campus.

John's amazing legacy includes the many men and women he mentored throughout his life.  He taught us all the meaning of the words "servant leader."

We will all miss his kindness, compassion and sense of humor.  Our hearts go out to Gladys, Pedro and the Soto family.

We are proud to share our memories of Dr. John Soto.
