Scholarships for Current Gateway Students

The following scholarships are subject to availability. Applications will open in Spring 2022.

Access to Success Scholarship / Award: $500

The Access to Success Scholarship was created to honor Dr. Dorsey L. Kendrick her retirement from Gateway Community College after 17 years who is a tireless advocate for open access to higher education. Scholarship is for a student in an Associate degree program, have a financial need. Minimum GPA—2.5.

 

Philomena M. Abell Nursing Scholarship /

Award: $300
Named in memory of the mother of a Gateway Community College faculty member. Must be accepted or enrolled in the Nursing program. Minimum GPA—2.75, after completing 12 credits.

Albertus Magnus Scholarship / Award: $500

Named in honor of Albertus Magnus' support of the Gateway Foundation Hall of Fame event. A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books or supplies. Preference given to those pursing degrees in Criminal Justice, Computer Science or Accounting. Minimum GPA: 3.3

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Nursing/Allied Health Scholarship / Award: $1,000
Established by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Completed 30 or more credits. Must be enrolled in the Nursing or an Allied Health program. Based on financial need. Minimum GPA—2.5.

 

Baker STEM Fellowship / Award: $4,516

Fellowship is for a student in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math. Must be a second-year student with 30 or more credits; - Must be enrolled full-time, 12 or more credits; Must exhibit financial need.  Minimum GPA: 2.5

 

Margaret Bauer Scholarship / Award: $1,000
A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books, supplies, or living expenses. Must be enrolled in one of the Business Office Technology associate degree programs. Minimum GPA—2.5.

 

Bertha Chism Scholarship / Award: $575

The Bertha V. Chism Nursing scholarship was established in memory of Gateway Community College's President Dorsey L. Kendrick's mother. The scholarship is for a first year Nursing student, must have an EFC of 2000 or less, has participated in community services, have a strong desire to succeed. GPA of 2.8 to 3.0

Chaine des Rostisseurs CT Biallage Scholarship / Award $2,000

The Confrerie de la Chaine des Rostisseurs CT Biallage created a scholarship for a student in the Culinary Arts, Food Service Management or Restaurant & Food Service Management program.

 

Chenard Family Scholarship / Award: $500

Established to honor the Chenard Family. Scholarship is for tuition, fees, books, or living expenses. Must have completed at least one semester at Gateway, demonstrated aptitude and/or interest in Math, Science or Humanities, financial need demonstrated by an estimated family contribution of $2,000 or less. Minimum GPA—3.20.

CIU Travel Italian Culture Scholarship / Award: $750

Scholarship for students with a strong interest in Italian cuisine and culture.

Connecticut Public Scholarship / Award: $750

Named in honor CT Public's contribution to the Gateway Foundation’s Hall of Fame event. A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books, supplies, or living expenses. Minimum GPA—3.0.

Curran Business Administration: Management Scholarship / Award: $500
A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books, or supplies at Gateway Community College. Must be enrolled in Business Administration: Management program. Minimum GPA—2.75.

 

Curran College of Technology Scholarship /

Award: $500
A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books, or supplies at Gateway Community College. Must be enrolled in either Engineering Studies or Technological Studies program. Minimum GPA—2.75.

 

Curran Computer Science Scholarship / Award: $500
A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books, supplies, or living expenses. Must be enrolled in an Computer Science: Networking Option, Computer Science, CSCU Transfer: Computer Science, or Computer Science: Data Security Specialist program. Minimum GPA—2.75.

 

Curran General Studies Scholarship / Award: $500
A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books, supplies, or living expenses. Must be enrolled in General Studies program. Minimum GPA—2.75.

 

Curran Liberal Arts Scholarship / Award: $500
A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books, supplies, or living expenses. Must be enrolled in Liberal Arts program. Minimum GPA—2.75.

 

Curran Public Utility Management Scholarship / Award: $500
A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books, supplies, or living expenses. Must be enrolled in Public Utility Management program. Minimum GPA—2.75.

 

Curran Railroad Technology Scholarship /

Award: $500
A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books or supplies. Must be enrolled in Railroad Engineering Technology or Railroad Engineering Technology: Signaling & Communications Option program. Minimum GPA—3.3.

 

Curran Studio Arts/Graphic Arts Scholarship /

Award: $500
A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books, or supplies. Must be enrolled in Studio Arts or Studio Graphic Arts program. Minimum GPA—2.75.

 

Frederick DeLuca Scholarship / Award: $2,000

Awarded to students who have demonstrated academic achievement, as well as financial need. Participation in extra-curricular activities, employed while attending school.
Minimum GPA—3.0.

 

Todd Dogolo Scholarship / Award: $300
Named in memory of the son of a Gateway Community College employee. Should have an interest in pursuing a career in mathematics or science. Minimum GPA—3.0.

 

Mario Fasano Scholarship / Award: $300
In memory of Mario Fasano, a Gateway student. For an adult learner who has returned to school after facing adversity to seek a degree to better him/herself. Student should be heavily involved in student leadership roles on campus or have worked as a student employee at GCC for two semesters. Student shall embody the spirit of Mario Fasano with his/her dedication to GCC and passion for learning. Graduating students who are transferring to another college or university may apply for the scholarship. Minimum GPA—2.5.

 

Richard Fiore Memorial Scholarship / Award: $1,000
Must be a Mathematics, Science, or Nursing student. Minimum GPA—3.0.

 

Frank J. Gallagher Scholarship / Award: $600

For tuition, books or supplies, student in Computer Science degree program, adult student at least 25 years of age, have financial need, earned minimum of 30 credits, minimum GPA of 3.2

Miguel A. García-Negrón Memorial Scholarship / Award: $250

Named in memory of Miguel A. García-Negrón, Professor Emeritus of Mathematics at Gateway Community College and a founding professor of Greater New Haven State Technical College. Awarded to a full-time student who has a strong interest in mathematics, has completed at least 12 credits at Gateway Community College, is a current full-time student (at least 12 credits) at Gateway Community College, and is enrolled in Calculus I (currently MAT 254) or higher. Minimum overall 3.0 GPA/minimum 3.33 math GPA.

G-MEN Scholarship / Award: $500
Open to a male student accepted into the Nursing program at Gateway. Need based. Minimum GPA—2.7.

Lindy Lee Gold Public Utility Management Scholarship/ Award: $500

Named in honor of Lindy Lee Gold's support of the Gateway Foundation Hall of Fame event. For a student enrolled in the Public Utility Management Program. ● A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books or supplies ● Minimum GPA: 2.50

Thomas Griggs Jr. Arts Scholarship / Award: $500

The Thomas Griggs Jr. scholarship was created to honor Thomas's induction into the Gateway Community College Foundation Hall of Fame. The scholarship can be used for tuition, books, or supplies. Must be enrolled in an Arts program. Minimum GPA: 2.5.

 

Thomas & Barbara Griggs Railroad Scholarship / Award: $500
Named in honor of Thomas & Barbara Griggs for a student in the Railroad: Signaling & Comm Opt or Railroad Engineering Technology program.

Iron Chef Fellowship / Award: $500
A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books, supplies, or living expenses. Iron Chef Fellows will be selected. Must be enrolled in 12 or more credits in the Hotel or Food Service Management or Culinary Arts program. Minimum GPA—2.75.

Frank Adam Jurczyk Sr. Scholarship / Award: $1,500
Established by Thomas Jurczyk in memory of his father. Based on financial need. Must be resident of New Haven County and U.S. citizen. Recipient can accept no other scholarship.

Laptop Scholarship / Award: $450 value

Thanks to generous donors -- Daniel Caron, CIU Travel, Evelyn & Richard Gard, Liberty Bank Foundation, People's United Bank -- 16 laptop scholarships will be offered to Gateway students—Must be attending Gateway during the Fall 2021 semester. Minimum GPA—2.0.

Larry A. Laukhuf Memorial Scholarship / Award: $750

Scholarship is for tuition, books, and supplies. For a student on financial aid, with a preference for a work/study student in Central Duplicating. Minimum GPA—3.0.

Freddy & Eusebio Luna Scholarship / Award: $250

Scholarship in memory of Freddy and Eusebio Luna, brothers of Dr. Wilson Luna, Dean of Students at Gateway Community College. Student must have an EFC of $2,000 or less. Minimum GPA—2.5.

McFarland & SNA Scholarship / Award: $500

The McFarland & Student Nurses Association (SNA) Scholarship was established by Prof. Barbara McFarland and the Gateway CC SNA. It is for a graduating senior nursing student; active in the SNA through their nursing education at Gateway Community College, letter from SNA Advisor required; Matriculated or applied to a Bachelor's in Science Nursing (BSN), copy of acceptance letter or application required.

Donald Lostritto Engineering Technology Scholarship / Award: $1,000

Scholarship created by former Electrical Engineering Technology Professor Donald Lostritto. This scholarship is for a student in any Engineering Technology program, have earned at least 30 credits, and have a minimum GPA of 3.0

Erico J. 'Rick' Mastronardi Jr. Scholarship /

Award: $500

The Enrico J. 'Rick' Mastronardi Jr. Scholarship was created in memory of Prof. Rick Mastrondardi who taught in the First Year Studies program. • For a student who has successfully completed ENG 066 or ENG091 or ENG 099 and has shown proficiency in college writing, reading, and communication skills • student who has demonstrated intellectual curiosity and is willing to engage in public discourse when called upon in the classroom • Letter of recommendation must be from a First-Year Studies faculty member • Must be eligible for ENG 101 • Minimum GPA 2.75 • Scholarship may be awarded in fall , spring or summer semesters.

Paul McCraven Entrepreneurial Scholarship / Award: $500

Named in honor of Paul McCraven’s service as chair of the Gateway Community College Foundation. The Scholarship is for tuition, books, and supplies. Must be enrolled in the Entrepreneurial program. Minimum GPA—3.0.

 

Paul McCraven Arts Scholarship / Award: $500

Named in honor of Paul McCraven’s service as chair of the Gateway Community College Foundation. The Scholarship is for tuition, books, and supplies. Must be enrolled in one of the Arts programs. Minimum GPA—3.0.

Melton/McAvay CSCU Transfer: Business Studies First-Generation College Student Scholarship /

Award: $1,000

Named in honor of Ruby Melton & Gail McAvay’s support of the Gateway Foundation Hall of Fame event. For a first-generation college student enrolled in the CSCU Transfer: Business Studies Program. ● A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books or supplies ● Minimum GPA: 2.50

Melton/McAvay CSCU Transfer: Criminal Studies First-Generation College Student Scholarship /

Award: $1,000

Award: $1,000

Named in honor of Ruby Melton & Gail McAvay’s support of the Gateway Foundation Hall of Fame event. For a first-generation college student enrolled in a Human Services Program. ● A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books or supplies ● Minimum GPA: 2.50

Melton/McAvay CSCU Transfer: Psychology Studies First-Generation College Student Scholarship /

Award: $1,000

Named in honor of Ruby Melton & Gail McAvay’s support of the Gateway Foundation Hall of Fame event. For a first-generation college student enrolled in the CSCU Transfer: Psychology Studies Program. ● A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books or supplies ● Minimum GPA: 2.50

Michael Murphy Fellowship / Award: $500
Named in memory of Michael Murphy, former director of Counseling at Gateway. Student must have a passion for becoming a counselor. Michael Murphy Fellow will be selected for the fall semester. Must be taking at least 6 credits. Recommendation must be from the DARC Program Coordinator. Minimum GPA—3.0.

NewAlliance Foundation Allied Health Fellow /

Award: Varies
NewAlliance Foundation Allied Health Fellow will be selected for the fall semester. Student with the highest-ranked grade point average accepted into an Allied Health program. Gateway Community College Foundation Scholarships will be chosen as NewAlliance Foundation Allied Health Fellow. Award will help provide funding for the Fall and Spring semesters at Gateway following selection.

 

NewAlliance Foundation Nursing Fellow /

Award: Varies
NewAlliance Foundation Nursing Fellow will be selected for the fall semester. Student with the highest-ranked grade point average accepted into a Nursing program will be chosen as NewAlliance Foundation Nursing Fellow. Award will help provide funding for the Fall and Spring semesters at Gateway following selection.

North Haven Rotary Foundation Scholarship / $1,000

Resident of North Haven, enrolled in Automotive, Electrical, Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering Technology preferred, Must attend a North Haven Rotary breakfast. Minimum GPA—2.5.

 

Francis S. Noonan Scholarship / Award: $250
Funded by the Noonan Family in honor of Francis S. Noonan, who was a member of the Board of Trustees of Connecticut’s Technical Colleges (1979-83). Must be a graduating student majoring in an Engineering Technology, Computer Science Technology, or Automotive program. Must demonstrate involvement in activities.

Mark Ojakian Criminal Studies Scholarship / Award: $500

Named in honor of Mark Ojakian's service as President of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities. Scholarship if for a student in the CSCU Transfer: Criminal Studies program. Minimum GPA—2.5.

 

Carmen ‘Snooky’ Parlato Scholarship / Award: $600
Open to a student enrolled in the Automotive Technology program at Gateway who is taking six or more credits. Preference given to students who hold a full-time job or have significant family responsibilities. Must be a U.S. citizen. Minimum GPA—2.5.

 

T. Valentino Paussa Scholarship / Award: $500

Named in honor of T. Valentino Paussa, father of Gateway CC Assoc. Director of Marketing and Communications. Scholarship is for a student in the Automotive Technology area. Minimum GPA—2.5.

 

Cheryl Anderson Pegues Book Scholarship /

Award: $300
Open to residents of Hamden or New Haven, CT, or those born in West Virginia. Must be eligible for financial aid. Must be active in a Gateway Community College student group or outside community service organization. Minimum GPA—3.0.

 

People's United Bank Scholarship / Award: $500

Named in honor of People's United Bank's contributions to Gateway Foundation's Hall of Fame event. Enrolled in Business Administration: Management program. Minimum GPA—2.5

 

Petraiulolo Family Scholarship / Award: $400

Established to honor the life and academic achievements of Deirdre Mahoney-Petraiuolo. —New Haven county resident and U.S. citizen —Business major preferred —Minimum of 15 credits completed —Minimum GPA—3.5; 4.0 preferred

 

Quinnipiac University Scholarship / Award: $500

Named in honor of Quinnipiac University's contributions to the Gateway Foundation's Hall of Fame event. Demonstrated financial need. Minimum GP— 3.0.

 

Jason Richardson Scholarship / Award: $500
Named in memory of Jason Richardson, husband of Althea Marshall Brooks, Gateway Foundation Board Member. Must be a New Haven resident and enrolled in Liberal Arts or Art Program.

Minimum GPA—2.5.

 

Robinson + Cole Scholarship / Award: $500

Named in honor of Robinson & Cole’s support of the Gateway Foundation Hall of Fame event. A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books, or supplies. Minimum GPA—2.75.

David Servin Memorial Scholarship / Award: $750
A scholarship for tuition, books, and supplies. Must be Liberal Arts and Sciences major, enrolled in or previously completed a class with Professor Medina. Must demonstrate an interest in helping others and have overcome personal obstacles. Minimum GPA—2.5.

Southern Connecticut State University Foundation Scholarship / Award: $625

Named in honor of Southern Connecticut State University Foundation's contribution to the Gateway Foundation’s Hall of Fame event. A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books, supplies, or living expenses. Minimum GPA—3.0.

Margaret McAllister Spain Memorial Scholarship / Award: $300
A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books, supplies, or living expenses. Must demonstrate commitment to his/her community. Must be enrolled in Early Childhood Education Continued Study program. Minimum GPA—2.75.

Paul Swann Athletics Scholarship / Award: $600

Scholarship named in honor of Paul Swann, former director of athletics.  A need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books, or supplies. Must be on the men's or women's basketball team. Minimum GPA—2.5.

Susan K. Swirsky Phi Theta Kappa Officer Scholarship / Award: $750

The Susan K. Swirsky Phi Theta Kappa Officer Scholarship was created to honor Susan Swirsky for her dedication to the Phi Theta Kappa Chapter at Gateway Community College. Student must be or have been an officer of the Phi Theta Kappa Chapter, must be graduating and will be attending a four-year institution in the fall semester. Officer must outline/explain their service as an officer of the chapter and provide documentation that they have applied to a four-year institution. Minimum GPA—3.3

 

Jan Trifiatis Business Scholarship / Award: $500
Recognizes a continuing Business major who demonstrates an ability to balance a full academic, work, and family life. A merit/ need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books, or supplies. Must have 9 credits minimum completed or be in process in Business Department coursework. Must be a declared Business major in a certificate or degree program. Preference given to a declared Accounting degree or certificate major. Minimum GPA—2.5.

 

UIL/SCG Scholarship / Award: $500

Named in honor of UIL/SCG's contribution to the Gateway Foundation’s Hall of Fame event. A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books, supplies, or living expenses. Minimum GPA—3.0.

 

Washington Area Railway Engineering Society (WARES) Fellowship / Award: $625

The Washington Area Railway Engineering Society Fellowship is for students who have demonstrated an interest in railroad engineering, on the basis of merit, and without regard to financial need.

 

Margery P. Weston Nursing Scholarship / Award: $500

Named in memory of Margery P. Weston this scholarship is for tuition, fees and other expenses. Student must be: - Accepted or enrolled in the Nursing program; Applicant must explain why you believe you will be a good nurse. Minimum GPA—2.70.

Williams Service-Learning Scholarship / Award: $500
A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books, and supplies. At least 10 hours per semester of documented active participation in service and/or service-learning activities sponsored by Gateway Community College. Minimum GPA—2.5.

 

The WorkPlace Scholarship / Award: $500

Named in honor of The WorkPlace's support of the Gateway Foundation Hall of Fame event. — A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books or supplies.  Minimum GPA—3.00

Norman H. Wuestefeld Scholarship / Award: $1,000
Named in memory of Norman H. Wuestefeld, who served as a board member of the Gateway Community College Foundation and on several Foundation committees. Must be enrolled in an Engineering Technology, Engineering Science, or Technology Studies program. Minimum GPA—2.75.

Yale-New Haven Hospital Scholarship / Award: $500

Named in honor of Yale-New Haven Hospital’s contributions to the Gateway Foundation’s Hall of Fame event. Must be enrolled in Nursing or an Allied Health program. Must be enrolled for 6 or more credits. Minimum GPA—3.0.

Zoldy Family Scholarship / Award: $1,000

The Zoldy Family created a scholarship for an adult learner who is 25 years or older • has financial need• minimum GPA—2.5
