Reception and Dinner
The Hall of Fame is the GCCF’s major source of scholarship assistance for deserving, qualified students. Last year’s event, the first ever held on campus, raised well over $100,000 for scholarship assistance. The 2013 Hall of Fame honorees were: Corporate Honoree Fred W. McKinney, Ph.D., president of the Greater New England Minority Supplier Development Council; Community Honoree William E. Curran, Halsey Associates (retired); and Gateway Alumni Honorees Richard Borer, president of Easter Seals Goodwill Industries, Roberta Hoskie, president and CEO of Outreach Realty Services, Outreach School of Real Estate, and Deborah Mele, senior manager, Omni New Haven Hotel at Yale.
Alexion, a global pharmaceutical company headquartered in Cheshire, served as the Hall of Fame’s lead sponsor. Other sponsors were: Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, AT&T, Carlton Highsmith, Centerplan Construction, Chamber Insurance Trust, the Eder Family Foundation, First Niagara Bank Foundation, Knights of Columbus, the Omni Hotels, Regional Water Authority, Robinson & Cole LLP, Space-Craft Manufacturing, Inc., Walmart, Wells Fargo, Winstanley Enterprises LLC, Yale-New Haven Hospital and Yale University.
David N. Caron, vice president of Site Operations and Engineering at Alexion, was honorary chair. GCCF vice chair Thomas S. Griggs Jr. of Yale-New Haven Hospital was the event chair, leading a dedicated volunteer committee of GCCF Board members; Gateway staff and faculty; and community, civic and business leaders.
Since its establishment in 1998, the Gateway Community College Foundation’s Annual Hall of Fame Induction and Reception has honored an outstanding cadre of business leaders who have enriched the fabric of the community, as well as alumni whose professional accomplishments, academic excellence and service to others have brought honor to Gateway.
Thanks to the financial support of generous sponsors, the patronage of attendees and the help of many enthusiastic and caring volunteers, this event has flourished over the years. It has become a major fundraiser for the Foundation’s efforts to provide scholarships to deserving Gateway students striving to make their educational dreams come true.
Ticket sales, sponsorships, program book ads and a silent auction have enabled the Hall of Fame Induction and Reception to become the Foundation’s largest source of funding for scholarships for deserving Gateway students. The Foundation also uses some of the proceeds to fund training and development opportunities for faculty and staff, and to purchase classroom equipment and materials needed to teach the latest technologies with the most modern and effective methods.
We invite you to learn more about the Hall of Fame and to consider becoming a part of this worthy and important effort. For additional information, please call Susan Swirsky at the Foundation office, (203) 285-2617, or e-mail her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
